Sit down, Haley
The biggest news around tomorrow's election came yesterday in Michigan when US Representative Haley Stevens (WTF?-MI), who lost the Democratic primary for US Senate to Dr Abdul El-Sayed, suddenly endorsed Republican MAGA candidate Mike Rogers. Stevens' reasons for blowing up her political career seem very personal1 to her and not really connected to issues or policies. That hasn't stopped anyone from speculating, raging, or lying, of course, and I'm including some of my own friends here. (Seriously, people, apply Occam's Razor.)
Still, no one knows anything about what will happen tomorrow, and in some cases no one will know for weeks. So just chill, people.
This isn't the only news story of the day, of course:
- Adam Kinzinger takes us back to 2010, the wave election that put him in Congress, to try making sense of what's happening this time.
- Author John Scalzi has some blunt advice for tomorrow, which I happen to share: "For Christ’s sake, don’t vote for a single fucking Republican." (As an atheist, though, I implore you to vote Democratic for your own sake. But if you believe in Jesus, doing it for His sake works for me too.)
- Paul Krugman reminds us that "oligarchy is on the ballot," with the astounding fact that "just 20 donors — roughly 0.00001 percent of adults, i.e. one ten-millionth of the population — have already pumped about $2 billion into this election."
- We don't know what will happen yesterday, but we can already see that the bill is coming due for the OAFPOTUS's corruption and proto-fascism.
- Brian Beutler has 29 thoughts about tomorrow, mostly about how major news organizations still haven't figured out how to deal with the OAFPOTUS's lies.
- Who doesn't love the Taste of Chicago food festival? Well, the Chicago Department of Health, for starters... (Just, ew.)
- Everyone seems to have an idea of where to put the Chicago Bears football stadium, but no one seems to have asked the Bears.
- Nick Dobos marvels that, in all of recorded history, 3% of critical software security bugs have been found in the last month.
- Following up on my post yesterday, it's true that "no one in Canada knows what time it is anywhere else in Canada:" "Since 2020, Saskatchewan has been on permanent daylight saving time, and Yukon has been on permanent standard time, but no one elsewhere in the country has ever wanted to know what time it was in either of these places, so it didn’t cause any confusion." Joking aside, the country's ridiculous time zone changes this weekend are still insane.
- Speaking of gloomy mornings, all the beautiful weather we had in October has gone away, leaving us with a really gloomy start to what is historically the gloomiest month of the year.
Finally, I watched Obsession the other day and loved it. So I was glad to see that I wasn't the only one wondering about the legal issues raised by the film, including "the biggest product liability case [this lawyer] has ever seen." ("I've never had customer service explain to me that the only way to cancel a product is my death!") If you haven't seen the film, see it. And if you're a lawyer, watch this Legal Eagle video for a good laugh.

To wit, she's a sore loser of OAFPOTUS proportions.↩
