Yesterday's storms

Yesterday's gentle rainfall included reported gusts over 120 km/h in some places and extensive damage. In my own neighborhood, Montrose Avenue remains closed until the city can free up a crew to remove this huge locust tree:

I can see from my apartment that drivers are still trying and failing to get past it. The city had a squad car blocking Montrose at Clarendon last night, but obviously they can't keep that up very long. I didn't see any signs on Cassie's walk this morning, however.

We expect two more rounds of severe weather over the next 12 hours.

Meanwhile, the National Aeronautic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) made it official this morning that an El Niño has formed in the Pacific, which will likely give us cooler and wetter than normal weather through November or so, but warmer and drier than normal weather next winter. Updates as conditions warrant.
